Data Masking: All variables are replaced with random values while maintaining the data structure. For instance, a patient's identification number could be replaced with a string of characters that doesn’t correspond to any real number.
Perturbation: Slightly modifying data to obscure the original while maintaining statistical properties. For example, numerical values like blood pressure or lab results could be adjusted by a small amount to prevent exact identification.
